About

Daria Schibitcaia, a violinist from Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, has distinguished herself as one of the most talented young artists of her generation, winning international competitions such as the International Music Competition "MadeInUkraine". She began her musical studies at the age of six and graduated with a gold medal from the Republican Lyceum of Music "Sergei Rachmaninoff" in 2018. At 17, she made her solo debut with the Moldova National Symphony Orchestra, performing Dmitri Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 1, and later represented Moldova at the 12th Delphic Games for Youth of CIS Member States in the Sverdlovsk region, Russia. After moving to Canada, he studied at The Phil and Eli Taylor Academy at The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto under the guidance of the late Victor Danchenko, and is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma at The Glenn Gould School, with professors Barry Shiffman and Erika Raum from the University of Toronto, benefiting from the Richard Iorweth Thorman Scholarship. He has participated in competitions such as the Shean Strings Competition and has won recent awards, including the Sylva Gelber Music Foundation Award and the Walter Prystawski Prize in 2025. As a chamber and orchestral musician, he has performed with the Niagara Symphony Orchestra, National Youth Orchestra of Canada, Moldavian National Youth Orchestra, Romanian National Youth Orchestra, and was concertmaster of the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra in 2022. Her solo performances include the North American premiere of Bernard Foccroulle's "The Journal of Hélène Berr" and Bartók's Violin Concerto No. 2 with the Royal Conservatory Orchestra, following her win in their concerto competition. She has performed in Canada, Moldova, Germany, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Belgium, Russia, and Romania, demonstrating a deep passion for the violin, ignited at age 14 during an orchestral tour in Germany. Daria combines innate talent with sustained hard work, aspiring to discover new artistic horizons, including through the use of a Gagliano violin on loan from Canimex Inc., and to continue in international competitions.
