About

Nicoleta Sandulescu was born in 1994 in Orhei, Republic of Moldova, and settled in Portugal, where she received high-quality artistic training. She graduated with a Master's degree in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon (2017-2020), an institution that profoundly marked her artistic evolution and consolidated her techniques of plastic expression. Currently, Nicoleta lives and works in Lisbon, where she has developed a recognized career in the contemporary art scene. Nicoleta Sandulescu's artistic practice is characterized by the exploration of tensions between the body and space, through fragmented and expressive compositions. Her works combine multiple techniques – graphite, ink, acrylic, and oil painting on canvas – in an approach that emphasizes multiple layers of meaning and reflection on lived experience. She has participated in prestigious group exhibitions, including emerging art awards, and has exhibited her works in important institutions such as Galeria Arte Periférica and Drawing Room Lisboa. In 2017, she won the Paula Rego Prize, a significant recognition in her artistic trajectory. Nicoleta is part of a generation of Moldovan artists based in Portugal who have managed to establish themselves on the international art scene. Alongside her sister, Catalina Sandulescu, with whom she has collaborated on curatorial and exhibition projects, Nicoleta has participated in various artistic events and art fairs, thus consolidating her presence in European contemporary art circuits. Her artistic practices continue to explore the interconnections between personal identity, memory, and transformation, bringing a unique Moldovan perspective to Lusitanian contemporary art.
