About
Maria Ruseva is a Moldovan fashion designer with over 18 years of industry experience, founder and creator of the sustainable fashion brand Moda de la Maria, established in 2019 in London. After a remarkable career in Turkey and experience in prestigious workshops in Istanbul, Maria moved to the UK with the aim of revolutionizing how fashion consumption is perceived. Inspired by the disappointment caused by fast fashion and low-quality mass production, she decided to create an authentic alternative, dedicated to craftsmanship and sustainability, offering women luxury clothing pieces that will last for generations. The distinctive feature of her work lies in the meticulous and entirely manual process of creating each piece, from the initial sketch to the final stitch. Maria designs each item in her London studio, hand-cuts the patterns, and sews the trimmings with extreme attention to detail, with a single jacket potentially requiring over a month of work. She exclusively uses the highest quality natural and organic materials – wool from Scottish farms, silk, cotton, and cashmere from the Isle of Mull – transforming each item into a statement of style and environmental responsibility. Her collaboration with carefully selected local studios ensures the maintenance of high craftsmanship standards, and each client benefits from a personalized experience through the made-to-order service. Maria's roots in Moldovan and Ukrainian craft traditions were fundamental in shaping her creative vision. Growing up alongside a talented seamstress mother and a remarkable craftsman grandfather, she assimilated a respect for nature and attention to detail, values she perpetuates in every creation. Her story of resilience is also evident through the pandemic period, when she reinvented her business through photography and digital marketing, turning a crisis into an opportunity for growth. Today, Moda de la Maria represents not just a fashion brand, but a tribute to family traditions, craftsmanship, and the empowerment of women through clothes that tell their story and reflect their values of authenticity and elegance.
