About
Vera Popescu's Professional Journey: Milestones and Activities Vera Popescu marked significant stages in post-war legal history, her activity characterized by a complex transition between various prestigious institutions and pedagogical roles. Nomination to the Magistracy A defining moment in her career was her selection for the list of the first female magistrates in Romania, alongside Yolanda Eminescu and Sanda Rosetti. Although she received this distinction through her professor, Vera Popescu later declined the appointment, citing the profound responsibility that the act of justice entailed and the uncertainty regarding her own capacity to manage decisions impacting human destinies. Activity within the Ministry of Justice and Publicistic Activity After refusing the magistracy, Vera Popescu was transferred to the Ministry of Justice, holding the position of legal advisor in the Department of Studies and Documentation. Her linguistic expertise in Russian facilitated her specialization in collective farm law, a field in which she delivered specialized conferences. In parallel, she was part of the editorial team of the journal "Justiția Nouă" (New Justice), where she performed tasks of analysis and verification of the conformity of published materials with the rigor of Soviet law, under the coordination of lawyer Schreiber. Contributions to Legal Education With the establishment of the Law School, Vera Popescu was assigned teaching and seminar activities, particularly within the family law course taught by magistrate Diaconescu. This period was marked by the inherent pedagogical challenges of training students from among workers, with limited prior academic background, but selected to ensure the exchange of personnel in the legal system. Although the process was difficult, Vera Popescu also noted cases of remarkable success, such as that of Irina Lazu, who later reached the rank of judge at the Supreme Court. Final Stage of Career In the latter part of her professional career, after concluding her collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and the journal “Justiția Nouă”, Vera Popescu focused her activities within the Institute of Petroleum, Gas and Geology in Bucharest, simultaneously continuing her teaching responsibilities at the Law School.
