About
Svetlana Ostapovici was born in 1967 in Rîbnița, Republic of Moldova, and has been living and working in Italy since 1999. She is an internationally recognized artist, and her practice encompasses photography, installation, painting, and mosaic, mediums through which she investigates identity, memory, and the human relationship with their own existence. In her artistic formation, interest in Greek and Latin culture, ruins, monuments, and ancient craft techniques played an important role, and over time she came to define a personal visual language, centered on inner reflection and questions about the individual and nature. In her professional career, Svetlana Ostapovici has specialized particularly in mosaic, which she studied and perfected in Italy, including in Ravenna and Rome, where she worked in a well-known studio in the San Pietro Square area. Her work has been presented in numerous solo exhibitions and prestigious events, including participations in the Venice Biennale, at Palazzo Zenobio, Museo del Vetro in Murano, as well as exhibitions in Milan, Paris, Berlin, Lugano, Macau, and Bali. Her works have been associated with important curators and promoters, such as Martina Cavallarin, Guido Cabib, Italo Bergantini, Gaia Conti, Gianluca Marziani, or Francesco Elisei, which confirms a constant presence in the European contemporary art circuit. On a personal level, public information about her family life is scarce, but it is known that the artist has maintained a strong connection with the Italian cultural space where she settled after 1999. In one of her projects, she co-founded the association The Format with Guido Cabib, an initiative with a formative component and dialogue between artist and promoter, which shows her interest in collaboration and the educational role of art. Beyond technique, Svetlana Ostapovici's creation focuses on humanity's impact on nature and an intimate search for identity, and this direction places her among the relevant voices of contemporary Moldovan-Italian art.
