Vera Mereuță, born Vera Grigorieva on November 27, 1937, in Transnistria, is a prominent figure in Moldovan culture, particularly recognized for her remarkable contribution to the art of speech and radio. After graduating from the prestigious "Boris Shchukin" Theatre School in Moscow in 1960, under the guidance of Evgeny Vakhtangov's successors, she returned to Chisinau where she was among the founders of the "Luceafărul" Theatre. Here she performed in notable plays, including the famous "Wedding Suit," which earned her a theatre license, and "Children and Apples" by Constantin Condrea, where she played the role of the Boy who steals apples. After three years of stage activity, Vera Mereuță turned to radio and television, becoming an announcer at Radio Moldova for four decades, from 1964 to 1999. She hosted children's TV shows such as "Good Night," "Enchanted Rainbow," and "Cock-a-doodle-doo," recited poetry, and participated in countless television programs, becoming famous as the "golden voice" of Moldovan radio due to her correct and literary speech. She also collaborated with the "Moldova-film" Studio, dubbing feature films and documentaries into Romanian, and her iconic voice was heard for years in Chisinau's trolleybuses, where she announced stations with distinction and clarity. Since 1997, she has been a professor at the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts in Chisinau, where she teaches the art of stage speech and has trained generations of actors. She has written several books and manuals dedicated to this field, including "Expressive Speech" (1997), "The Logic of Stage Speech" (2005), "Monologue" (2005), "Recitation" (2006), and "The Art of Stage Speech" (2017). For her entire career and constant dedication to Moldovan culture, she was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the M.S.S.R. (1990) and, more recently, People's Artist of the Republic of Moldova (2025).
