Adelaida Mateescu was born on April 1, 1932, in Otaci, Bessarabia, into a family of teachers. After her family took refuge in Romania, she completed high school in Bucharest and then enrolled in the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications at the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest, graduating with a specialization in telecommunications in 1956. From 1957, she embraced a teaching career at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, an institution where she worked uninterruptedly until the end of her life, progressing through the university hierarchy from assistant professor to professor. In 1965, she obtained the title of Doctor Engineer with the thesis titled "Chebyshev Equalization of Group Propagation Time," developed under the guidance of Professor Gheorghe Cartianu. Throughout a remarkable scientific career, Adelaida Mateescu focused her research on the fields of circuit theory, digital signal processing, digital filter design, and multimedia and mobile communications. She has published over 100 articles in national and international scientific journals, as well as several university textbooks and specialized monographs. She supervised the doctoral work of numerous researchers, over 30 of whom obtained the title of Doctor Engineer. Her achievements have been recognized with the "Traian Vuia" Award (1984) and the "Gheorghe Cartianu" Award (1999) granted by the Romanian Academy, as well as the AGIR Award (2000). Adelaida Mateescu held important managerial positions at the Politehnica University of Bucharest, serving as Vice-Rector from 1984-1988 and 1990-1992, Dean of the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications (1981-1985), and Head of the Department of Radiocommunications and Data Transmission (1970-1980, 1992-2000). She was a founding member of the Academy of Technical Sciences of Romania and president of the Information Technology and Computers Section, as well as a member of the National Council for the Attestation of Scientific Titles (1978-1997). In 2002, she was decorated by the President of Romania with the distinction "Serviciul Credincios in the rank of Knight". Professor Adelaida Mateescu passed away on May 20, 2009, leaving a significant scientific and didactic legacy for Romanian telecommunications.
