Lilia Marek, originally from the Republic of Moldova, was born and raised in the former Soviet republic, speaking fluent Romanian and Russian. At 15, she came to New Braunfels, Texas, as a Rotary exchange student, spending a year at New Braunfels High School, hosted by three American families. She later returned to the United States to study at Texas State University in San Marcos, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Marketing with highest honors in 2000, after which she graduated from the University of Houston Law Lilia is married to Paul Marek, whom she met in Houston, and the couple has three children: Liana, Maia, and Luke. They moved to New Braunfels, a city she considers "home," where the family attends St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, getting involved in various ministries. Passionate about community, Lilia is a board member of the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce, co-chair of the Rotary Youth Exchange District Committee, and involved in volunteer programs, wanting her own children to become ambassadors through international exchanges.
