Galina Lupașcu, born on April 6, 1951, in the village of Scoreni, Strășeni district, is a distinguished Moldovan biologist, Doctor Habilitatus in Biological Sciences, research professor, and corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova since 2023, in the field of plant biology. She graduated from Moldova State University in 1974, beginning her career at the Institute of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry of the ASM, and from 1980 onwards, she worked within the Plant Genetics Department, later reorganized into the Institute of Genetics, Physiology, and Plant Protection of Moldova State University. She climbed all the rungs of the scientific hierarchy, from senior laboratory assistant to head of laboratory, obtaining the title of Doctor Habilitatus in 2000 in the specialties of Plant Protection and Plant Genetics, and in 2014, the title of research professor for her contributions to the training of scientific staff. Her achievements are impressive, with a portfolio of over 640 publications, including 11 monographs, 72 articles in international peer-reviewed journals (25 with impact factor), 54 invention patents, and 22 plant variety patents, plus 19 variety certificates. A specialist in plant immunogenetics and quantitative trait genetics, she has been a scientific consultant for numerous theses, including an official reviewer for five doctoral theses at CNAA, and has coordinated recognized innovation projects with 14 diplomas, medals, and special awards at international exhibitions in Moldova, Romania, Switzerland, and China, including the AGEPI Award for the best invention created by a female inventor (2017) and the Gold Cup "Woman Inventor Award" at EUROINVENT Iași. In 2019, she received the National Award along with a group of researchers for modern biotechnologies in increasing plant productivity. As a leading figure in the life sciences in the Republic of Moldova, Galina Lupașcu stands out not only for her scientific rigor and erudition but also for her collegiality and impeccable ethics in professional relationships. In 2024, she celebrated 50 years of scientific activity, marked by excellence and dedication, contributing to the development of agricultural genetics adapted to the Moldovan context.
