Aura Christi, born on January 12, 1967, in Chișinău, Republic of Moldova, is an internationally renowned poet, novelist, and essayist. A graduate of the "Gheorghe Asachi" Romanian-French Theoretical High School in Chișinău (1984) and the Faculty of Journalism at the State University (1990), she made her absolute debut on October 23, 1983, in the newspaper Tineretul Moldovei. After regaining Romanian citizenship in 1993, she settled in Bucharest, where she consolidated her literary career, becoming the editor-in-chief of the prestigious magazine Contemporanul. Ideea Europeană, which is published under the auspices of the Romanian Academy. The daughter of an aviation officer and a mother from the Karaman family, the writer grew up in a rich intellectual environment and absorbed the cultural traditions of both her parents. Her literary work comprises over 60 books published both domestically and abroad, including volumes of poetry, essays, and novels, among which are the tetralogy Night Eagles and the novels The House in the Dark and The Wild Circle. Her poems have been translated into more than 20 languages—German, French, Italian, Spanish, English, Russian, Chinese, Hebrew, and many others—and published in Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Israel, China, the United States, and other countries.
