About
Mariana Bulicanu is a Moldovan soprano who has built a successful career in international opera. Born in Chișinău, she studied at the Ștefan Neaga Music College and the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts, completing her vocal training with world-renowned teachers, including Luciana Serra from La Scala in Milan. After her debut in 2010 as Donna Anna in "Don Giovanni" on the stage of the "Maria Bieșu" National Opera and Ballet Theatre, Mariana Bulicanu became a soloist at this institution, where she performed until 2019. In 2012, she won the Grand Prix and the Trophy of the "Maria Bieșu" International Competition, establishing her as one of the reference voices of a new generation of opera singers. Since 2019, Mariana Bulicanu has been performing as a soloist at the Romanian Opera in Craiova, where she continues to captivate audiences with her outstanding performances. The artist has performed on the stages of the most prestigious European and global institutions, including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, where she was repeatedly invited between 2013 and 2022 to perform the soprano part in Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana". She has performed on opera stages in Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Turkey, collaborating with international conductors and the Amsterdam Philharmonic. Her artistic portfolio is diverse and complex, encompassing technically demanding roles in classical operas: Violetta in "La Traviata", Lucia in "Lucia di Lammermoor", Gilda in "Rigoletto", Donna Anna and Zerlina in "Don Giovanni", as well as the role of the Queen of the Night in "The Magic Flute", which she performed with great success at the National Opera in Varna, Bulgaria[1]. Mariana Bulicanu remains a symbol of vocal excellence and artistic dedication, being recognized both in the Moldovan cultural space and on the international arena, and her commitment to mentoring and transferring knowledge to young singers reflects a deep responsibility for the future of lyric art.
