About
Dr. Emily Altman is a dermatologist and dermatopathologist certified by the American Board of Dermatology, recognized for her expertise in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. A summa cum laude graduate of the honors program at CUNY Hunter College, she earned her medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She completed her dermatology residency at Northwestern University and Columbia University in 1997, followed by a dermatopathology fellowship at New York University in 1998. She has published numerous scientific articles in prestigious medical journals and was named one of New Jersey's top doctors by New Jersey Monthly magazine. In her career, Dr. Altman founded and served as Medical Director of Advanced Skin Wisdom @ Comprehensive Dermatology and Laser Center, LLC in Livingston, NJ, from 2000 to 2012, providing advanced treatments for conditions such as acne, psoriasis, eczema, rosacea, skin cancer, and cosmetic laser rejuvenation. She served as Chief of Dermatology at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center from 2000 to 2010 and collaborated with institutions such as Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Summit Medical Group in Berkeley Heights, NJ, as well as Emory University and Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, GA. She is a member of seventeen regional, national, and international dermatology societies, president of the New Mexico Dermatological Society, associate editor of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, and a board member of the Enright Melanoma Foundation. On a personal level, Dr. Altman is a passionate gardener, spending a lot of time tending to the flower gardens at her home in Livingston, NJ, an activity she connects to her profession through the need for careful attention and the right environment. With over 30 years of experience, she treats a wide range of complex dermatological conditions, including autoimmune diseases, alopecia, vitiligo, and oncologic dermatology, actively contributing to education, clinical research, teledermatology, and teaching residents and medical students. Her interests also include search engine optimization and social media in a medical context.
